Physical Education

Welcome to our PE curriculum page! Miss Wordsworth is our PE leader alongside Mrs Speight and Mr Rowley.  They have prepared an Intent Statement which is published below:

St Theresa’s PE Statement of Intent

At St Theresa’s, our PE curriculum focuses on much more than just physical skills and sports. We aim to help every child understand their body and develop minds, bodies and hearts through a holistic approach. We aim to develop every child’s social skills, thinking skills and emotional skills through the physical skills and help each child learn how to apply them and transfer them to different life situations.

Our intention is for every child to access 2 hours of high-quality curriculum PE and 60 minutes of Physical Activity every day. We also aim to provide every child in our school with the opportunity to attend an after school extra-curricular activity linked to the PE curriculum and scheme of work, Complete PE. Through this, we provide an environment where children are happy, fulfilled and can express themselves through PE and Physical Activity.

At St Theresa’s, we value the opinions of all our key stakeholders. We gather information around pupil satisfaction with their PE curriculum and the after-school clubs available to them.  We then tailor extra-curricular activities to the needs of the children in our school – making the curriculum inclusive to every child whilst also striving to create a team ethos with our slogan ‘Team Theresa’s’, develop a winning mentality and achieving success in everything that we do.

PE and sport are massively important to us as a school and the ethos around Team Theresa's has brought much success at local, city and county levels in a range of sports including Sportshall Athletics, Football, Netball and Cross Country running. Our girls in particular are very strong and tend to lead the charge in our athletics and running games. We are very proud of our sporting heritage and details of that can be found on our SPG page.  Team Theresa's was born out of the London Olympics in 2012 and the legacy that this brought to our school has been immense; there is a clear correlation between our academic success and our sporting success proving (if one needed to) that a healthy body equals a healthy mind.
